CCIA Welcomes EC Ancillary Copyright Consultation For All Stakeholders

We hope this will be an opportunity for better, reasonable copyright policies to the benefit of those accessing information, the digital industries, authors and publishers themselves.

The following can be attributed to CCIA Vice President James Waterworth:

“CCIA has always advocated for a European copyright policy fit for the digital age and welcomes the public debate on the ancillary copyright for press publishers.”

“It is clear that copyright policies in Spain and Germany to hand money to press publishers failed as they hurt users, hurt publishers and hurt technology companies. Additionally, such initiatives risk damaging people’s’ freedom to link to content on the Internet. We look forward to explaining this to the Commission.”

“European copyright policy should reflect the symbiotic relationship between publishers, and technology, as well as citizens’ freedom to access information and publish their own material online. Such an approach will benefit consumers and overall economic growth.”
