Register Of Copyrights Bill Would Undermine Much-Needed Modernization Efforts

Re:Create Coalition expresses concern with flawed Register of Copyrights legislation

WASHINGTONThe Re:Create Coalition today issued the below statement in advance of the House vote on H.R. 1695, the Register of Copyrights Selection and Accountability Act:

“We are fortunate to have a newly installed Librarian of Congress committed to making the reforms needed to help the Copyright Office catch up with the latest technological advancements, but House passage of this bill will only undermine those reform efforts. Despite widespread agreement that the Copyright Office is in need of modernization, the Register of Copyrights Selection and Accountability Act fails to make modernization a priority and will do just the opposite. We urge the House to consider these concerns and oppose the bill,” said Joshua Lamel, Executive Director of the Re:Create Coalition.
