Re:Create Statement On Keeping JCPA Out of End-Of-Year Must-Pass Bills

Re:Create issued the following statement urging Congressional leaders to keep the Journalism Competition & Preservation Act (JCPA) out of all lame duck, must-pass legislation:

“We thank the congressional leaders and Senators who successfully kept the Journalism Competition & Preservation Act (JCPA) out of defense legislation. The JCPA had no place in this bill, and it still has no place in any must-pass legislation,” said Re:Create Executive Director Joshua Lamel. “If Congress is to find answers for serious issues facing this country, then it must follow the legislative process of hearings, open debate, markups and votes. We remain extremely concerned with the JCPA’s threats to a free press, to free speech, to local journalists and to how users access information online. There is nothing more ‘undemocratic or unbecoming’ than attempting to hide bad legislation in must-pass bills.”
